How a name travels from us to you
Every purchase runs through the same five steps. None of them asks you to trust us with money: payment goes to a licensed escrow company, and it is released to us only after the name appears under your company at your registrar.
Where it starts
A short note, either way round
Usually you hear from Paloma first: a few lines about one name and why your customers might type it. Just as often a company writes to us about an address it has had its eye on. Either way, the first exchange is only about whether the name is worth a conversation.
One number
One figure, in writing
If you would like to go further, you receive a single price for the name. We do not quote a band and wait to see where you land in it. If the timing or the way you pay matters more to you than the number, say so; that is often where there is room.
About a page
Terms you can read in a few minutes
Once the figure is agreed, a one-page summary follows. It sets out the price, which escrow company holds the funds, who pays its fee, how the name will be moved and by when. Your lawyer or finance lead can read it before anything is paid.
Where your money waits
You pay the escrow company, not us
The escrow company opens the transaction, and you send payment to it by wire or card as it allows. It tells both sides once the funds are secured. From that moment we move the name, and the money stays put until you confirm you have it.
The handover
The name arrives in your registrar account
If you use the same registrar as we do, the name is pushed straight into your account. Otherwise we release the lock and hand over the authorisation code, your registrar requests the move, and it completes within a few days. You confirm to escrow that the name is yours, and only then are the funds released to us.
How long it takes
Mostly as long as your own sign-off
The mechanics take days. The rest depends on who at your company has to say yes, and we are happy to wait for that. We will not rush you with a deadline that is not real.
After the move
If you want the new name to point at your existing site, or your old address to forward to the new one, we can walk your web person through the settings. There is no charge for that.
